23 days to baby chicks

It's getting closer. So exciting. I'm going to start a new blog to document the experience of having chickens. It will be accessible from this blog.
Yesterday I spent the afternoon with 3 of my precious grandchildren. When I arrived at their house I knocked on the door but there was no answer and I didn't see anyone inside the glass of the locked front door. I thought maybe they had gone for a walk since it was such a beautiful day. So I sat down and waited. There was some activity outside, some children riding bikes up and down the street and some vehicles coming and going, but overall it was a pretty quiet neighborhood. In a more quiet moment I heard some noise coming from the house so I knocked again and yelled, "Hellooooo, is anyone home?" No answer. I sat down again and smoked a cigarette. I kept hearing noises but couldn't get a response to my knocking and yelling. Either they are home and can't hear me OR they have a ghost haunting the house. After 30 minutes I decided to walk to the side of the house and yell some more. I listened again at this side of the house and then I heard them. I started yelling "Steve, can you hear me?" Finally I heard, "I think your grandma is here" Big smile on my face, I would get to see the birthday boy after all. Inside the kids informed me that Daddy was sick and staying in bed. I was dissappointed because I had planned to take them to the roller skating rink. I said as much and they all went upstairs and got permission to go with me. I told them that they would be required to wear socks and that I would like to run a brush through Loralei's hair. So the mad search for socks began and the search for a hairbrush came up negative. Anyway we had to get down there or we would be too late. Everyone had socks but we had to ignore poor Loralei's hair. We were pretty late when we got there so they let us in for the price of one. They got skated up and stood there looking at me as though they were going to cry. They were scared to death. OMG what was I doing to my poor grandkids? To start with their dad wasn't there. To second with they couldn't move around without falling. It was a sight. They really need to get out more often. I told them to stay on the carpet until they felt more confident. But no. They all had to head out onto the rink. Loralie enden up in tears. Stephan was extremely uneasy. He wanted to just go have fun, all the other skaters were making it look so easy, but he couldn't. Larry was more assertive and took Loralei up and down the carpet. I walked on the carpet and held their hands as they skated along the edge of the rink. After about 15 mins I decided snacks would be great. So we put back the skates and got pizza and nachos from the concession stand. Overall I believe they had a good time. I know I did. Stephan got lego for his birthday. I don't see them very often but when the weather warms up I plan to get them over here as often as I can. It does me so much good to be with them and I'm sure it works for them too.
