History - phase two - 30's part 1 Canada
We lived in Canada for a year. We had a small basement apartment on a chicken farm. The kids loved the farm. I knew the people, had gone to school with their daughter and had visited their home several times as a teenager. They were really good people. I had all the eggs I wanted and many chickens too old to lay eggs went into the pot. They planted huge gardens and shared the produce with me. I bought a pig from them for the freezer. I didn't work in Canada because I didn't have anyone to care for the children. I tried making teddy bears to sell but they weren't interesting enough for anyone to buy. My parents lived within walking distance from the farm and we spent a lot of time with them. The Canadian government decided that we could not go on living in their country like that. The children all being US Citizens and I a British Citizen. So after a long and stressful court case and many tears we were asked to leave the country and given two weeks to do so. My parents had raised me in a church which had little groups all over the United States. I knew many of these people and felt that I should be near one of these groups for support and encouragement as I had no family in the States at that time. I called around to the different churches and spoke with the leaders. I received a warm welcome from the group in Ohio, it was practical to live in Ohio because the standard of living was much lower than on the East Coast and unemployment was lower than Michigan. So I packed up everything in a U-haul and the minivan and proceeded to drive 13 hours down to Southwest Ohio with my dad's help. So that's how we ended up in Ohio.
